Lorraine M. Barnes “Gma” 98, of Hermantown, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 6, 2024, in St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 29, 1925, to Herman E. and Mary Ellen (Walsh) Zoesch in Faribault, Minnesota.
At the age of 13, Lorraine moved to International Falls, where she graduated from Falls Senior High School in 1943. She worked at the Mando Mill in International Falls, Holler Liquor Store, and later worked at Holler Elementary School.
On December 24, 1947, Lorraine married Harvey Barnes. They lived and raised their family in International Falls. For twenty years, Lorraine and Harvey enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spent their winters in Homestead, Florida. In 1985, Harvey passed away and in 1986 Lorraine moved to Duluth. She volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital for more than 24 years for a total of 7,301 volunteer hours. Lorraine devoted her time to caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 38 years, Harvey; daughter, Karen Maki; sisters, Yvonne Vickers and Leota Scott; and her daughter-in-law, Joyce Barnes.
Lorraine is survived by her son, Myron “Mike” Barnes; grandchildren, Jennifer (Cory) Carivau, Richard Barnes, Christopher Barnes, Travis Maki, Myron (Mardy) Maki, Caleb Maki, Isaac Maki, Emily Maki, and Martha Maki; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Hoff, Parker Maki, and Wesley Maki; son-in-law, Bruno (Sue) Maki; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation to be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 15th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hey, with Funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM. Pastor Tom Stegall of Duluth Bible Church will be officiating. Burial at Birchdale Cemetery, Birchdale, Minnesota.
